ABOUT

Hi there! My name is Kearin (she/her). I'm Jewish, Queer, Neurodivergent independent journalist, filmmaker and founder of the up-and-coming Substack, Punky Daydreams.

After five years in the UK, I have returned to my country of South Africa, settling in Cape Town's vibrant Observatory area. I graduated from University of Portsmouth in 2024 with a first-class degree in BA (Hons) Film Production. Additionally, I was awarded the Barbara Machin award for Best Script in a Short Film for my graduate film, Punk Mitzvah.

I am currently working as a freelance writer and photojournalist. When I am not working on scripts, articles and exciting personal projects, I am shooting protests  and marches in my proximity.

My work as a protest photographer led to collaborations with UK charities such as  Abortion Rights UK, where my photographs have appeared on their social media as well as with ARFID Awareness, where my work is currently displayed on their website.

I have written for High on Films, Spyglass Magazine, Ambitious About Autism and  Fantasy/Animation.

Alongside my journalism work, I desire to make films specifically about mental health, social issues such as reproductive rights, human-based experiences and projects tailored with wit, quirkiness and passion. I also have interests in writing for stage and novel writing, comedy, and music supervision.

In my spare time, I enjoy facetiming my dog, Bailey, binge-watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia or Catastrophe for the 600th time, drinking overpriced coffee, browsing a random thrift shop for when I already have too many clothes as it is and trying to contain the next creative idea I have rattling in my brain!!​
